26 US-amerikanische Organisationen haben sich gemeinsam in einem Brief an den Kongress für die Gewährleistung informationeller Selbstbestimmung der PatientInnen im eHealth-System eingesetzt: "The proper balance to ensure timely access to medical records for treatment and preserve patient control of medical records means allowing access in emergencies if consent cannot be obtained, but requiring patient permission before records are disclosed in everyday situations". Auch strenge Regelungen zur Datensicherheit werden gefordert.
Die "Coalition for Patient Privacy", angeführt von der Patient Privacy Rights Foundation, besteht unter anderem aus der American Civil Liberties Union, dem California Consumer Health Care Council, den Computer Professionals for Social Responsibility, dem Electronic Privacy Information Center, dem National Center for Transgender Equality und dem U.S. Public Policy Committee for the Association for Computing Machinery.- Quelle: EPIC alert.
